Technical University, Jalandhar was established in January 1997 for
advancement of technical education & development. The University has
under its affiliation 40 Engineering colleges,56 Management, 17
Pharmacy colleges ,6 Architecture 2 Hotel Management and 13 colleges
imparting courses in Medical Lab Technolgy& IT disciplines. The
University has an intake of more than 12700 and total strength of
more than 60,000 approx. University has established 12 Regional
Centres for M-Tech courses and has established school of
Enterprennership 2 TQM as Mohali.

Directarate of
Distance Education was established in the year 2001 for promoting IT
and Non- IT courses through distance mode . Presently, various
courses are being offered in more than 350 learing centres LC across
the country. Regional Learining (RLFC) Facilition centres in private
partnerships have been estalished to provide support services to the
Learing centres.

MCRPV is a statutory university; the
UGC has issued an office memorandum (No. 9-4/92 CRP-1, date
27/11/1992) in that respect. The Vice President of India is the
ex-officio visitor (kuladhayaksha).
The university is a member of Association of commonwealth
University, London (ACU).
The general council is the supreme authority with the state chief
minister as its ex-officio chairman. The council has amongst its
member, the chairman of the Pres Council of India, nominees of the
parliament, editors of Indian news papers, eminent journalists,
commnicators, leaders of opposition in the MP vidhansabha, minister
of public relations, minister of higher studies, minister of finance
& the secretary.
Named after the renowned poet, freedom fighter & journalist Pt.
Makhan Lal Chaturvedi, the university has collaboration with well
known newspapers & media organizations for conducting its programmes,
which are practical & job oriented. Over the past few years, the
alumni of the university have found placements in various regional &
national newspapers & also in English dailies, TV channels,
libraries, central & state government department / organizations,
corporate sectors, NGOs & web organizations.
The university now has a nation wide network of over 500 institutes
through which 40,000 students are persuing studies for the
university degree or diploma programmes.
The university is poised to launch an educational programme through
a TV channel for the benefit of students registered in the study
institute. This is a unique programme to be started by an Indian
university for the first time where the programmes are conducted in
an interactive mode.
The university continues to make innovations in its curriculum,
methods of teaching & evaluation in pursuit of excellence & keeping
the market requirements in view. The university believes that as a
center of excellence it has to interact with the industry & the
market, which means both influencing & being influenced by them
